I update this randomly. So, check back every once and a while to see if I've added something new. The newest ones are not posted at the beginning or the end; I shove them where I think they fit. So, you'll have to eyeball until you see !!! indicating a new Q&A.

General
Q: First off, who made this site?
A: Myself and Artsy are the original creators of Alter Ego. The idea was simple: we wanted our own site, with little to no rules about roleplaying, since most sites we came across had very many rules and restrictions. It really blossomed over night... we both stayed up 'till 3:oo a.m coming up with ideas and such for the site. X3 Artsy was the one who came up with the name 'Alter Ego'.
Q: Who are the admins and mods here?
A: Due to Artsy becoming busy in the last few months with her own things, I moved her down to a moderator instead of co-admin since she's not around to help. D: So, I am the only Admin, and Artsy is the only Mod.
Q: I'm new to the site, what would you suggest I do first?
A: Read EVERYTHING in the rules section, even if you think you don't need to. Research the site before you ask a question; it might have already been answered. 
Q: I'm also new to role-playing, and I'm not too sure what to do. Can you give me any tips?
A: The only tips I can give you is to look at other members posts, and then try your hand at it. Rp-ing is really just writing a story with other people contributing to it. The best thing is, you'll never know how it'll turn out. : O
The Site
Q: I'm sick of the layout of the site, can I change it?
A: Yes, you can. Go to your profile, click on 'Modify Profile', scroll down to where it says 'Select Skin' under 'Account Preferences'. There are only 5 different skins to choose from at the moment, but more will be added soon.
Q: How do I get a custom icon/avatar?
A: You'll need to go to an image hosting site, like www.tinypic.com for example. Upload your avatar of choice and copy the URL and paste it on 'Avatar URL' under 'Personal Information' [you go to Modify Profile to get there]
Q: I'm tired of my user name, can I change it?
A: Yes. Still in Modify Profile, go to 'Display Name' under 'Account Information' and change it that way.
Q: How do I change my 'mood'?
A: Go to Modify profile, under 'personal information' it'll have a drop-down, and you can choose your mood there. If you'd like a custom mood, simply PM me with what you want. c:
Q: Can I have a custom title, like your 'The half 'tard'?
A: Indeed you can, but you must go through me to do so. D: So, you'll have to PM me, tell me what custom title you want, and I'll make it happen. This will NOT change your ranking! [such as 'newbie scum', or, 'Losing sanity', this changes with your amount of posts] It will sit under your stars, and above your 'member is offline/online' info.
Q: I want to be a co-admin/moderator, how do I apply for that position?
A: At the moment, we're not looking for any moderators/admins. When we're looking for more staff, we'll announce it.
Q: When do you think you'll be looking for staff?
A: Right now, we have very few members, and most of them are inactive. I'm thinking around 20-30 active members, and I'll be wanting/needing some more help. For now, I can really handle things on my own. =]
Q: I have a good idea for a public place/dangerous grounds, who and where do I go to to give this information?
A: You can either post it in the I Want ____! suggestion board, or you can PM me [Kasei] with your idea.
Roleplaying
Q: Is there a limit to how many characters we can have?
A: No. Have as many characters as you like! c:
Q: Can we start a new thread in a place that already has one?
A: Yes, you can; there is no limit to how many threads there are in one place!
Q: If we're using our character in one thread, can we use the same one in another?
A: At the moment, yes, your character can be 'in two places at once'. Though, I'd limit it to about three posts at the same time per character, because it could get confusing. We will let it be known when you can no longer do this.
Q: Can I join an RP post even though there are already two people RP-ing?
A: Yes, you can. If you do, may I suggest you post in order. ex: You, the other member, and the last member, then you again, etc.
Q: At once, how many people can RP together? You mentioned 3, can there be more?'
A: As many as you want. There's no limit.
Q: I'm bored with the thread I'm in now, how do I get out of it?
A: Well, you could either PM [private message] the member you're RP-ing with and tell them you don't want to RP on that thread anymore. Or, to avoid an 'open' ending, you could have your character suddenly leave wherever they are in the post.
Q: I just want to RP with one person, what do I do?
A: At the top of your thread, just put a little A/N [Authors note] saying you don't want to RP with multiple members.
Q: Will an admin kill off my character if they go onto 'Dangerous Grounds'?
A: No, an admin will not [and cannot] kill off your character. Your character cannot be killed without your permission. It's just a 'warning' for human characters that there are strong and not-so-social beings roaming the grounds. Basically, your character can go to dangerous grounds, just know that they could get into a fight with another members character [that's really depending on if we have any bloodthirsty and murderous characters on the site] and your character could get hurt.
Q: Can we write in past or present tense?
A: Whichever one you like best; it doesn't matter.
Q: In the Alter Ego roleplaying world, do regular humans know about vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc?
A: Unless they live under a rock, they do. In the world we've set, such things as myths and legends coming to life and mythical creatures actually existing are commonplace. Not fully accepted by everyone, but still well known.
Q: Can my character have a romantic, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc, type of relationship with another character that is not mine?
A: Of course! Actually, I encourage romance. X3 Though, if the character you're interacting with doesn't want that type of thing, and would rather stay friends with your character, don't push it too much [maybe the owner of the character doesn't want his/her oc [original character] with yours. Don't take it personally, though]
Q: Can 'mature' things happen on this site?
A: If by mature you mean the writing of lemons, then yes, that kind of mature content is allowed on this site. If you don't know what a 'lemon' is, it's a term used in fanfiction to hint that there is sexual content present [two [..or more] people having sex, if you don't catch my drift XD]. If you do not like this kind of stuff, that's okay! You do not have to write anything that goes above a teen rating [or G rating] if you don't like it. If someone you're rp-ing with starts getting a little 'freaky' with your character, don't get mad or offended. Simply PM them and tell them that you'd rather not go down that road.
That said, if your RP post contains mature content, please write something like 'Mature' or [M] for short in the subject title so someone knows that two characters are doin' the nasty and won't be blinded by too-blunt wording.
Q: Is yuri [female/female] or yaoi [male/male] allowed on this site?
A: Yes. We're not homophobic here.
Q: I have a question that wasn't answered on here, what do I do?
A: There are many things you can do. You could PM me with your question or email me [the official Alter Ego email is AlterEgoStaff@live.com]. If it's just one question, I'd recommend PMing an admin.
